weeks - Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an
experienced RN for a PCU/IMC/Med-Surg travel assignment requiring
at least 1 year of PCU or ICU experience and Cerner proficiency.
Details - Work in a combined PCU/IMC/Med-Surg unit within an acute
care hospital setting (Trauma Level IV) - Unit has 12 beds plus 4
ICU-overflow rooms with an average census of 8 patients - Common
patient diagnoses include pneumonia, COVID, and post-op orthopedic
cases (knees, hips, falls) - Nurse-to-patient ratios: MS 1:5,
IMC/PCU 1:3–4, ICU 1:3; team nursing model pairs RNs with LPNs for
up to 7 patients total, with a minimum of 2 RNs in the department
at all times - CNAs available when census exceeds 6 patients - RNs
are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Heparin (IMCU),
and pressors such as Levo, Cardizem, and Dobutamine (ICU) - RNs are
responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry
strips; remote tele monitoring is conducted externally - Charting
system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic) - 12-hour night shifts -
Every 3rd weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) - Holiday
coverage required for 2 out of every 3 assigned holidays -
On-call/standby required on a rotating basis with a 45-minute
response time; candidates willing to float to the ED are less
likely to be placed on standby - Floating to the ED for tasking or
holding patients is available as an alternative to low-census
call-off - Self-scheduling with staff scheduler assistance;
travelers are expected to be flexible in filling gaps in permanent
staffing - 13-week contract Requirements - Active WI or compact RN
license required by start date - Current AHA certifications: BLS
and ACLS - Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU RN experience required
(MS-Tele experience alone is not sufficient) - Cerner EMR
experience required - Ability to titrate vasoactive and cardiac
drips - Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitoring strips
independently - 2 professional references required for
consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12
months of relevant experience and 1 peer or supervisor reference
from within the last 3 years Additional Information - Travelers may
be asked to step into a charge nurse role; the charge nurse
typically carries a small patient assignment - Nurse supervisor
covers both the ED and the floor and serves as a resource for staff
- Orientation consists of 4 hours of computer-based training (CBT)
and 8 hours of floor training - Any solid scrub color is acceptable
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply - Travel duos are
accepted - Candidates who previously worked for this health system
as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to
